Annual Conference a Success
Our Annual Conference held recently on October 18th & 19th at the beautiful Prestige Lakeside Resort in Nelson, BC had a great turnout. Thanks to all delegates, presenters and trade show participants for your efforts in making it a success. Darwyn Kutney, from Glenmore-Ellison Improvement District was elected as a director for a 3 yr. term, so welcome Darwyn. 30 operators attended the Dam Safety and Maintenance Session on October 18th, conducted by Will Jolley, Provincial Dam Safety Head. The trade show that followed was a great networking opportunity for all, which was followed by the banquet, where Don Dobson from Urban Systems was presented with this year’s award for being an outstanding industry contributor. There were five presentations made on October 19th, which included Judi Ekkert and Marianne Crowe from Interior Health Authority, who spoke on Water Quality Advisories and Infrastructure Replacement; Vern Rogers from the Sustainable Infrastructure Society, who talked on Best Management Practices for Borrowing Money for Infrastructure Improvements; Dwain Boyer, from the Ministry of Forests, Lands and Natural Resource Operations, who talked about the recent flooding and landslides in the Nelson area; Glen Craig from Caro Analytical, who gave an update on Sample Collection to Data Reporting and Graham Watt, from the Regional District of Kootenay Boundary, who talked about the Kettle River Watershed Management Plan. Shawn Lambert, a historian from Nelson gave an entertaining story at lunchtime about the history of Nelson. Thanks to all!
